How Do I Avoid Substance Abuse Triggers?

We live in an era where there are more alcoholics than workaholics. That's the holy grail of the present situation in America. There are people who are abusing drugs more than using them. The situation is really bad and God knows where the sanity of the population is going.

Well, today we are here to evaluate and study some of the factors that are known to trigger substance abuse.

Living in a drug abuse area

They say its human nature to mimic. If the people around me are exhibiting a particular set of traits and habits then there are pretty high chances that I would mimic them and copy them. Same happens in the case of drug abuse. If people around you are in the habit of taking drugs then chances are that you would also be tempted to give them a try.

The feel-good factor

Most of the drugs act on the brain and make a person feel really good about himself and things around him. Add to it the fact that our media and history has this that many prominent and successful people of the country use to do drugs. This makes one really tempted to try it out for themselves, without thinking much about the consequences. This phenomenon often triggers substance abuse.

Social Anxiety

More often than not especially in the case of alcohol abuse, it is observed that people started consuming alcohol to evade social anxiety and become more open to social interactions. Also, people having stage fear are also been known to take drugs in order to overcome their fear and anxiety. This is also a big triggering factor for substance and alcohol abuse.

Depression/Trauma

When a person is under great mental turmoil, then he is looking for an easy way out of the situation. Drugs and alcohol are often marketed as an easy way out of troubles of your life. Which is not even remotely true however people still buy it. Then they become a full-blown addict in the time to come.

Maternal Drug History

Ghetto and slums are the areas where drug abuse is prevalent. It is also a place where under the influence of drugs the addict females have unprotected sexual intercourse resulting in pregnancy. The babies born to such mothers have a very high probability of becoming addicts in future.

The above mentioned points would give you quiet a fair idea about what triggers the substance abuse. Avoiding them should now be easy, just stay away from the things mentioned above and you should do fine.
