Signs of Opioid Withdrawal

Before we start with the signs of opioid withdrawal we must first understand what opioid addiction is. Early symptoms typically begin in the first 24 hours after you stop using the drug, and they include:

• muscle aches

• restlessness

• anxiety

• lacrimation (eyes tearing up)

• a runny nose

• excessive sweating

• inability to sleep

• yawning very often

Later symptoms, which can be more intense, begin after the first day or so. They include:

• diarrhea

• abdominal cramping

• goosebumps on the skin

• nausea and vomiting

• dilated pupils and possibly blurry vision

• rapid heartbeat

• high blood pressure

These symptoms although appear to be very serious, however, if one can bear with them for 72 hours then the things start to improve. It is this 72-hour window where a person would require medical and rehab help to come out of their addiction. Having said that we would also mention here that opioid addiction is even worse for women. Babies born to such mothers are really weak and have some serious complications.
